We did the upstream cruise from Yichang to Chongqing during October 11th and 15th. Nothing special happened the first day. It was a day for transport to our departure city Yichang. It was around 9:00 PM when we got on the boat. The cruise is indeed luxurious and the cabin is comfortable. The cruise ship didn’t set off until 6:30 AM the next day. It was pretty chilly out on the top deck, so I had to go back to my cabin to put on a jumper. We had a shore excursion around 10:30 AM to visit the Three Gorges Dam. The dam is very controversial, as it has changed the Yangtze River and destroyed many historical sites and buildings. When the dam was being built, millions of people who lived around the river had to remove and relocate. After we got back to the ship, we had to wait for around an hour to get into the locks. Once we got into the locks, it would take around 5 hours to get into the dam. The first one was the longest as we had to wait for other ships to enter. There were 7 ships, of which were 3 cruise ships like ours and 4 cargo ships. It was interesting when we went through the first and second locks, but the next 4 hours become boring for we only could see the other ships and the wall in the locks. When we got through the locks and into the dam, the sun was rising. We joined the Captain’s Welcome Party tonight. Next morning, we had an excursion up the Shennong Stream near the city of Guandukou on the Yangtze River. We went onto a smaller ship around 8:00 AM to enter first stretch of the stream. In the evening, the cruise staff put on a fashion parade for the guests. We took the morning shore excursion to Fengdu next day. There were a lot of temples and shrines scattered across the mountain, along with a torture chamber depicting what happens to those that don’t pass the tests and go to hell. The crew on the ship performed the talent shows the last night of the cruise. It was wonderful and they are surprisingly versatile. We disembarked the boat next morning and ended this splendid Yangtze trip.

Good cabins, very clean, tasty meals. The staff who speak good English provided very pleasing service on the cruise ship. But the optional excursion for 230 Yuan was too much expensive, 100 Yuan would be enough. The Three Gorges Tour with the Splendid China Cruiser is very recommendable and pleasant!
