The Victoria Anna Cruise is launched in late 2006. The Victoria Anna cruise which accommodates 308 passengers, was designed by a U.S. architectural firm and custom-built to conform to Western standards. The Victoria Anna’s facilities include a large sun deck, a three-story atrium lobby, two lounges, two glass elevators, three bars, a gym, lecture room, library, beauty salon, fitness center, spa, massage room, multiple gift shops, two restaurants and generously sized cabins complement floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies opening up to breathtaking views.

We traveled with a group of 28 on the cruise Victoria Anna to explore the Yangtze River and we, personally, booked a mini-suite. Amenities are scant. The reception, dining, bar, and deck areas are lovely and always kept clean. The crew is friendly, and many are very talented. The entertainment was wonderful including costumes, dance routines, etc. The shore excursions were well-planned and very interesting! The Yangtze River and Three Gorges Dam were most interesting.
The dining room for suite guests was very nice. Breakfasts were very good throughout the cruise; lunches and dinners in the main dining room were also amazing. The ship was comfortable and overall, very pleasant.
The most fantastic shore excursion we visited was The Three Gorges Dam which was the largest hydroelectric power project in the world. We learnt a little more about it and went to a couple of great vantage points to see views of the entire Dam. It is massive in size and amazing what they have done. They are also building a ship elevator for smaller boats to use which takes only 40 minutes to go through the Three Gorges Dam as opposed to the 5 stage Ship Locks which takes 3-4 hours. The elevator will not be finished until 2015 but sounds a little scary if you ask me as your ship is stuck inside a concrete box under water – scary!!!
After this shore excursion, we then got back onto the boat, packed our luggage, sat on our balcony for the last time (sad) and had a buffet lunch. It was also sad to say goodbye to the people we had met and they were all so lovely. We then had to disembark the boat which we really didn’t want to do as we had the best time on the cruise and really wanted it to go longer.

Our flight was delayed nearly two hours landing us in Chongqing, the starting point for our Yangtze cruise. We hurried to jump on the ship. Fortunately, we managed to get on down the Yangtze. It was quite an adventure to board the ship. The river was quite low at the time and as the ship band played on the boarding dock, we were led down the stairs and then onto a series of platforms across the river to the ship. The Victoria cruise ship, the Victoria Anna, was just put into use this season. It was a marvelous ship and the staterooms, each with its own balcony, were ample and nicely laid out. We then went back to our cabin, poured a glass of gin and watched the beautiful lights on the high-rises of Chongqing as the ship started to sail.
We awoke very early the next day watching the sunrise on the Yangtze. After an excellent buffet breakfast, we attended the mandatory “how to use a life vest” talk, and then stayed on for an overview of the Yangtze River. I went to a short lesson on Mandarin language. We then took our first shore excursion to Fengdu Ghost City. It was a fascinating and fun pause. In the following days, we visited the Shennong Stream and astonishing Three Gorges Dam. The scenery is beautiful.
Answer #4
We have a chance to wind down and expedite the removal of 96 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons. What an achievement it would be, if at the end of the next administration, we could say that the nuclear arsenals of both Russia and the United States had been reduced to the barest minimums.

We cruised on Anna from Chongqing to Yichang. This is our first river cruise, even though we had taken many cruises on ocean-going ships. The comparisons here are relative to our ocean cruising experience and not against other Yangtze River cruise companies. The ship is extremely well operated, with attentative, friendly, competent, and available staff. For a boat holding only up to 300 passengers, it was surprising that the company packed in a full program of excursions, entertainment, and education programs. 4 internet stations are available, but the connections are understandably very slow. A doctor is on board who also teaches tai-chi in the morning. Breakfast is western style buffet with a bit of Chinese. Dinner is family style Chinese, with very conservative choices of material. I thought the preparation was as good as most tourist restaurants in major cities. Ice came from boiled water – everything was very clean and very safe. The guide who talked about the Yangtze was extremely knowledgeable. I was surprised he even spent an hour talking about all the negatives associated with building the three gorges dam. Definitely not propaganda ladden. The land tours are very good. The highlight for us is the sampan tour of the small gorges, where the water is clear and the whole atmosphere idyllic. All in all, it is great value for the money!
